Installing FreeBSD 10.3 with ZFS on Scale HC3

  • FreeBSD 10.3 has just recently released and I wanted to get it up and running on the Scale HC3 cluster in the NTG Lab. We have installed FreeBSD 10.2 with UFS (aka FFS) on the Scale in the past so no surprises here. The Scale HC3 was just updated to HyperCore 7.0 so this is the latest BSD on the latest HyperCore. And testing with ZFS here, for the first time.

    First we make a VM:

The FreeBSD installation process is a TUI based system but is very easy to use.

  • Since we used ZFS, this is what the default filesystem layout looks like.
