@WrCombs Also remember once you have vm's setup and running they are just files. So that also makes it real easy to backup with robocopy, veeam, rsync or borg. Its one of the many great advantages of virtualizing, your expanding your options alot.

@JaredBusch said in Conatainers (Docker) vs VMs - When and Why?: @Obsolesce said in Conatainers (Docker) vs VMs - When and Why?: Are there many use cases in the SMB outside of Dev? Not even in dev really for the SMB. Just use a single VM to do the work. SMB rarely needs to scale. Other than as you stated, the solution is presented that way. Like UNMS. Even enterprise rarely need to scale that way. It's more for hosting companies than anything.

@scottalanmiller that's exactly I was trying to point out. Storage for the camera footage is important not just in terms of available space. There may be a case where the OP would need to directly access his recordings in case of emergency to provide them to the authorities when the host is no longer available (stolen) or damaged. Having them stored on a separate NAS inside a shared folder would certainly make the above job easier. Having said that, this can also be done by simply backing up the video files elsewhere or syncing them offsite.

That's a very good post that covers information people don't often think about after deploying vCenter. Additionally, it's something helpful when studying for the VCP-DCV. Thanks for sharing!

I've managed OpenVMS systems back in the late 90s and early 00s. You couldn't pay me enough to take on a system that thinks no notification when you need to change backup tapes was an ok thing. Granted, that was probably the person who setup the backup system, but still, yuck.

The link is more recent, because he mention XS 7. I got acancel AARP (done, should have check by 4/13 and no mailings by 6 weeks from 3/16)I got about 50% of the way into this, and had to move on to other projects. But I really need to get back to it.
