      Nice

      Chocolatey has OpenJDK 11, too.

      I needed it today, so I'm pretty aware how useful it is :)

      Looks like Harvard has followed suit and is blindly following Stanford into moving their CS program closer and closer to just being relabeled software engineering.

      @scottalanmiller said in Outdated Java and IE security settings for CUCM. When did this become okay?!:

      That seems pretty bad.

      For firefox, had to follow this: http://stokebrand.com/blog/2015/7/6/cannot-login-to-cisco-callmanager-after-firefox-update
      For Java, I had to drop the security from very high to just high, disable some "Block these apps" settings and add an exemption for the https://IP:port of the CUCM server.

      For those who don't want to follow the link for firefox, I had to set these in about:config
      security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha=false
      security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha=false

      Perhaps you need to setup a VM specifically for managing that old equipment.

      I have not needed to use the iDRAC console in a couple of years now, and I had not realized that I still had to have f'n java installed in order to use it. WTF....

      Pretty much the same for every kind of remote console, be it on an IBM, Dell or SuperMicro server or on an Aten IP KVM. PITA, big, nasty PITA.

      How many of us have a VM on our workstation just for this? I know I do, and it's hard to get much smaller than we are and still need any IT.

      Yup, using a VM for this. Yet another system to maintain.

      I have a machine or VM (depending on client) running Veeam already so I drop java on that via chocolatey.

      @Lakshmana Get a good book and work from console. There's a reason a lot of languages do it like that. Do all the practice exercises for each section until you get them right and understand them.

      Right, but then they don't update it? How can you have enough resources to create an application and then not enough to update it with the platform it's built on?

      Why waste money updating something if your customers don't leave you anyway? That's not good business.

      I hate your logic sometimes ;)

      @Dashrender You move from 7 to 8 for features, not for security. This is a fully patched and fully managed version of 7, so actually staying on it for security, not in spite of it.

      Also, remember this is OpenJDK not Oracle JRE so fully open source, visible to the community, audited and no history of security problems.

      Here is an example: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1190263-java-script-inserting-an-image-into-a-pdf-form

      In this discussion, he titles the post "Java Script". But there is no Java Script, there is Java which is not a scripting language and there is JavaScript which is. So it would either be a Java program (lower case p) or a JavaScript script (lower case s.) The use of the upper case S in Script implies that he believes it to be a part of the name, but there is nothing with that name. He tags the thread "Java" which implies he truly means Java, but where did the word Script come from? Nothing in the topic provides a clue as to what he is doing. There is not any context to determine what language he is referring to. And given that he is unsure how to refer to them or that there could be confusion it is completely realistic that he does not mean either.
